The Sunmile SM-G31 is the simplest and one of the cheapest Sunmile meat grinders: an on/off switch, three cutting plates, a sausage tube, and a motor rated at 250 watts. It sold for $49.99 on Amazon when we checked on October 13, 2026, with 4.4 out of 5 stars from about 1,800 ratings.
Short answer: it’s a good grinder for someone who grinds a few pounds of beef, pork or venison once a week. It has no reverse button, though, and Sunmile’s own SM-G35 adds one for about the same money. Choosing between Sunmile models? Skip to the comparison table.
We haven’t put this grinder through a test kitchen. This review is built from Sunmile’s published specifications and what owners report in their reviews, and we say which is which.

The 800W figure is the motor’s peak when it’s straining against a jam, not what it runs at. The 250W rated power is the number to compare, and it puts the SM-G31 at the light end of home grinders. That’s fine for boneless cuts, which is what it’s built for. If you plan to grind tough cuts or do big batches every weekend, look further down the Sunmile range.
What Owners Like About It
- It’s quicker than people expect. Owners report grinding around 20 pounds in about 15 minutes, as long as the meat is cut into roughly one-inch cubes first.
- It handles the usual meats. Owners mention beef, pork, boneless chicken and a lot of venison, including one who ground about 25 pounds in a session.
- Setup and cleanup are quick. The head screws on with a locking knob, and owners say taking it apart to wash takes about a minute.
- The price. Value comes up again and again. One owner worked out they were grinding meat for about half the store price.
Common Complaints
- No reverse. When sinew wraps the auger, you switch off, unplug and take the head apart. Grinders with a reverse button let you back the jam out instead.
- The finish doesn’t survive the dishwasher. Owners who washed the aluminum head and tray that way say the shine came off and the metal darkened. Sunmile only rates the blade and plates as dishwasher safe, so hand-wash the rest and dry it straight away. A few owners also report rust.
- Some units wobble. Most owners call it sturdy, but a handful say the feed tube and head wiggle in use, and at least one sent theirs back after a single session.
- Sausage stuffing is slow. The tube works, but owners who make a lot of sausage find it tedious. A separate stuffer is the better tool if that’s your main job.
Partly freezing the meat, trimming the silver skin and keeping the cubes small helps with both the speed and the jamming. Our guide to meat grinding techniques covers the rest, and our guide to buying, using and caring for a meat grinder covers cleaning and storage.
Which Sunmile Meat Grinder Should You Buy?
Sunmile sells five electric grinders on Amazon. They share the same basic kit (three stainless plates, a stainless blade, a pusher and a sausage tube) and the same 1-year warranty. What changes is the motor, the reverse button and the body.

Specs are Sunmile’s own figures from its Amazon listings. Prices were checked on October 13, 2026 and change often. All five models were rated 4.4 out of 5 on Amazon that day.
- Cheapest way in: the SM-G35. Same rated power and grinding rate as the SM-G31, but it adds a reverse button and usually costs about the same.
- Stainless body on a budget: the SM-G33, with a stronger 400W rated motor and reverse.
- Most power for home use: the SM-G73, at 600W rated with a larger #8 head. We cover it in detail in our Sunmile SM-G73 review.
- Big batches: the SM-G50, the only Sunmile that advertises metal gears, with a large #12 head. It costs about four times as much as the SM-G31.
Head size numbers (#5, #8, #12) decide how much meat the grinder can push through and which aftermarket plates fit. Our meat grinder sizes guide explains what they mean.
Our Verdict on the Sunmile SM-G31
The SM-G31 does the basic job well, and it averages 4.4 out of 5 across about 1,800 Amazon ratings. For occasional grinding of boneless meat at $50, there’s little to complain about. The missing reverse button is the biggest drawback, and since the SM-G35 fixes it for the same money, check both prices before you buy. If you grind every week or in big batches, spend more on the SM-G73 or SM-G50.
